About

Jiaqi was born and raised in China until the age of 18. She currently works in Grand Rapids, Michigan at her home studio. Her work, made on the wheel and carved by hand, reveals her interest in texture, lightness, and translucency. Her work is made in the belief that romance belongs in daily life, and it coexists with practicality if done right. She mostly uses mid-fire porcelain. However, she is moved by seasons and daylight, so she also uses mid-fire black stoneware and speckled clay during fall and winter. Her aesthetic is rooted in both her Chinese and American education.

"If anything is worth doing at all, it is worth doing right. I went to a small lovely liberal art college and didn't touch clay until the end of my junior year. Immediately I realized that my medium is 3D. After graduation, I got married, bought a kiln and wheel, and have been working by myself since 2022. "

A glimpse of us

I see each piece I make as a form of new self going into the world. They reflect where I have been to and where I am going.
